Track 2-3

Together with tracks 102 and 104 this one forms a Full-Day  Roundtrack of about 6 hour walking time. Still the beaches in the North are of difficult access for cars and while so, wonderful for hiking in originary nature surrounding. Slowly the track descends from the hills to the wide sandy beach where there lies the wrack of Cabo Santa Maria.

5 Liter of trinking water per person, boots, sun protection, map and compass are the correct outfit for the complete round trip.

Starting Point is the light house, reached via track 102.
From the pass at the hyper-litter-dump of Curral Preto [FARO02] the dark body of the wrack is visible far away in the damp of the shore. A little road follows the shoulder of the plateau in a little distance î passing by former lime ovens.
Only after having left the dark vulcanic ground and having entered light sandy areas [SMAR02] it gives sense to try to descend è without a visible trail, directly to the beach. Following the little road further to the lime [SMAR05] doesn't take longer.

The Wrack [SMARIA] once was a modern spanish trade ship full of fruits, cheese, beverages and a few brandnew cars when the crew was surprised that the nice little party they were having in the middle of the Atlantic, suddenly ended on this sandy beach. (1968) There were no trials undertaken to tow it away and it was quickly given up.
