On the island
of Brava, the old Cape Verde continues
alive, protected from the wild goings of
an all devouring tourism and real estate
industry.
And if Brava seems remote, without
airport,
then Fajã d' Água
is the most remote of the remote. Anywhere
behind the waves, where the sun touches the
horizon, there is America.
The artist coupel has reserved only
a few rooms on their wonderful compound for
guest.
Guest can sit or stroll in the
wide garden and agricultural areas. Once
or twice a day, a pickup comes and goes.
Otherwise, Fajã d' Água
is a calm place. A hike up valley to Nossa
Senhora may fill the day.
Right in front of the house, mighty
Atlantik rolls up and down a gravel beach.
A quarter of an hour of walk to the south
leads to the most beautiful natural seawater
pool in the middle of rocks and perfect for
swimming. People searching for the stereotype
of blue sky, white beach, screaming icecream
and pizza vendors do so in vain.
Guestrooms are spacy and well renovated
without any atempt to fiddle in what is meant
to be indispensable for a soulless standard
hotel room. NO TV, NO phone, NO frigobar,
NO noisy
AC. Instead of
that,
the house breathes culture and arts.
Who ever feels she - or he - or
we need
a time off, a retreat where to relax, to
read or to write, has found a most suitable
place.
And who comes for just a night or
two after the hike, is welcomed as warmheartedly.
