São Nicolau offers
a wide range of beautiful and challenging hiking paths in a variety of of
landscape, ranging from vulcanic rocks over lonesome beaches, green irrigated valleys to
desert.
Surface structures are similar to moderated alpine regions (max. 1310 meter above sea
level - Monte Gordo). The dense network of former mule-tracks is still maintained. Alltogether, trekking on the island is as nice but less strenuous than on the bigger
sister island of
Santo Antão. Even
orientation is
easier.
