Lar Nho Djunga in São Vicente

is the biggest facilty for youth in Barlavento. It is named after Mr. Nho Djunga, a photographer who long long before independence cared for abandoned children. He has offered them Accommodation and foster care in his private home.

Social Responsability and Intitiative in Cape Verde have quite a long tradition.

Children and Youth

deprived of care and stimulation from home, having been or risking to become Street Children  can get Accommodation, education and vocational training by the institution.

190 Children in day-care
  40 in the boarding school.

Basic Vocational Training

one-year courses are offed to become an auxiliary  carpenter, metal worker or electrician. (see foto).

Some of the candidates continue to full vocational training. But most of them are prone to become independent and earn money as early as possible. The market absorbs them easily.

At night, the class rooms at  Lar Nho Djunga are use for evening classes for adults.

A special Kindergarden for the socially underprevileged

Centro de Rehabilitação Nutricional
(Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre)

This facility works at the ground-floor of Lar Nho Djunga.

A local NGO, named after a medical coleague who died very young, Dr. Teófilo Menezes, has grown out of its previous main task.

The Centro offers day-care for socially underprevileged children, preventing many cases of failure of social integration of children in society - called "malnutrition" by the less gifted clinicians and nutritionists.

Social Orphans, children of (living) parents suffering from alcohol or drug addiction, mental and behavioural disorders contribute a respectable amount of children coming to the centre.

You are welcomed to support this effort with your donations.
