Maio continues
to be a quiet island with little tourism and an extense
interior. While in the north, seawater spilled meadows
and dunes create a very special environment, in the center
the absence of rain is responsable for a virtually complete
absence of vegetation. In the west, acacia forests make
the island one of the most important wood producers in
Cape Verde.

Advanced
mapping technology facilitates reading.
Altitudes
and surface structure are
shown by curves, coloured layers and shadowing.
Hiking
tracks are numbered and there will be a corresponding
guide-book in future. Where hiking trails make use of periphery
forest roads, those are marke accordingly.
City-maps show urban facilities like hospitals,
