You find the complete programme on our CD-Rom!

When working with the  CD-Rom, you find the installation programmes in the directory :\TRACKMAK.
Close all Windows Programmes including the browser.
Open just the Windows Explorer and click  :\TRACKMAK\Setup.exe.

You find later updates online under  http://www.gpstm.com.

Please respect the contractual condition you sign for the use of the programme and never to use it against the benefit of nature!

Cable interface Computer - GPS

Purchase your cable for your GPS with care! There are different types looking alike but eventually harmfull to your device!
For example, the cables for Garmin GPS 12 and Garmin GPS 12 XL provide different Voltage to the GPS.
Using the wrong one will destroy the receiver!
Connect while GPS and Computer are switched off. Remember the serial interface you use Com1: or Com2:

In case you fail to get the connection established, first check:
- Setting of Interface (Com1: or Com2:) in your Programme
- activate the interface in the Programme
- check the correct interface settings of the GPS receiver (see Basic Settings)
- Set off the  Windows GPS-Module

USB interface Computer - GPS

Trackmaker, since version 12.3 (Nov. 2004) supports USB interface.

Windows GPS Module / driver

Windows, since version 95 provides a module /driver for GPS receivers. This allows to hand over GPS data to mapping and navigation programmes. You need this kind of driver for example for MS-Autoroute-Express® if you want to see your position on the map.
For Programmes managing the upload and download of waypoints, routes und tracks, you do not need it!
The contrary is true. The driver may occupy the interface and hide or block it with the effect that uploads and downloads are impossible and you get error messagew - respectively the programme reports a missing connection to the (physically correctly) connected receiver.
Sloppy programming (not the exclusive domain of Microsoft®) may even surprise you with blue screens and hanging programmes.

If you had little experience with Windows, ask somebody proficient!
What is to be done is switching off the GPS module / driver.
In later versions of Windows you find this under:
START _ Setting_Control Panel _ GPS _ remove
To reinstall the function for example for MS-Autoroute-Express®, you have to install it again. With a little bit of luck Windows still finds it on your hard disk. If not, you need the original Windows CD-Rom and have to install it from scratch.

GPS Basic Settings

Modern receivers allow to adapt them to a variety of languages, local settings, locally usual formats and the datum of the map.

Our maps use exclusively the internationally recemonded Datum of the World Geodaesic System called  "WGS84" and so we use it as the standard Setting on the GPS.

System Setup:
Offset: -01.00 (Kap Verde Zeitzone)

Navigation Setup:

Position FRMT: hddd°mm.mmm´
Map Datum: WGS 84
CDI Scale: +- 0.25
Units: Metric
Heading: True Degrees

INTERFACE Setup: (bei Garmin Geräten)

GRMN / GRMN

Upload

When working with our CD Rom, GPS Data are found in the respective Directory per island.

TRACKMAKER® allows to upload all information at once.
In Santo Antao, the number of routes goes beyond the storage capacity of GPS receivers.
Nevertheless it is not necessary to take a laptop computer with you on holidays.
You find three files, one for every district:
- PN_All.gtm    for Porto Novo
- PL_All.gtm    for Paúl
- RG_All.gtm    for Ribeira Grande
Each of the files contains all waypoints of the whole island plus all routes of the respective district. So you always carry the full range of waypoints with you and in case you want to introduce a route from another district, you just introduce the respective waypoints in your GPS receiver by hand under the menue-item "Routes".
The number of Waypoints for Santo Antao is kept below 500.
