Bofareira - Sal Rei |

The adventure of trekking in the desert is without of risk of loosing the track. Several projects have failed to built a direkt road from Bafareira to Sal Rei but left behind a wonderful, streight hiking trail, covered with sand. Lonely hills greet from the North down on the barren plains where only a few palmtrees disrupt the monotonous landscape. Closer to town, a scattered forest of palm trees makes a change from a landscape of light yellow dunes. 3 Liter of drinking water per person, solid shoes, sun protection, map and compass are the basic equipment for this track. Starting Point is the village of Bofareira (Tel, shop). About 200 m through the open plain ç brings us in contact with the end of the most developed and paved part of the never completetd road project. [Bofare]. Jumping from one lonely palm tree to the next, the road ç, now unpaved but not to be lost í , crosses some minor affluent valleys before reaching the pass [Bofa14] and starting to descend to the valley of Rª do Cural da Bena ç. Glittering lights far ahead like a fata morgana later turn out to be the white houses of Sal Rei far behind the dark of palm trees of Boa Entrada und Floresta Clotilde. In Floresta Clotilde there is a crossraoad where to continue streight ahead ë in direction of a few houses 200m ahead. [Clot02] At the bifurcation next to the houses a sandy track throuch the dunes í continues in order to meet the old main road [Smar13]. Only a quarter of an hour later ç it ends in an open plain in town.
